AHC Simulation Center and Interprofessional Education & Resource Center
TITLE: Healthcare Simulation Coordinator
JOB CODE: Training Coordinator (8263)
JOB SUMMARY: Reporting to the Director of the AHC Simulation Center and the Interprofessional Education and Resource Center (IERC), the Healthcare Simulation Coordinator is responsible for the coordination and implementation of critical care clinical simulations in the University of Minnesota’s Academic Health Center. This position works closely with a team of professional educators, researchers, and trainers to coordinate course sessions and tests to teach and assess health science students’ clinical skills. The IERC and AHC Simulation Center work with each of the health science schools (including the College of Veterinary Medicine), partnering with faculty and students to design effective educational experiences and examinations. This position will also work closely with other simulation experts across the AHC and the educational technology coordinator in the Sim Center/IERC to maintain and manage technology-rich resources.
MINIMUM/ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate must possess at least an Associate’s degree and relevant certification in a relevant health science profession (e.g. respiratory therapy, paramedic, etc.), and clinical experience. Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint are also required. The successful candidate must be comfortable with a range of technologies (AV, computer, electronics, etc.), possess excellent written and oral communication skills, have effective project management skills, and be able to work a flexible schedule that occasionally includes evening and weekend assignments. This position is part of a dynamic, highly productive team and must enjoy working in a team environment. This position requires some lifting, walking, standing, and the ability to climb a ladder in order to support the equipment.
DESIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree; familiarity with simulation technologies (i.e. mannequins, procedural simulators); demonstrated success as a trainer, especially in an academic environment.
Project Development (25%)
- Collaborate with diverse partners (e.g. IERC/Sim Center staff, clinical faculty, practitioners, and first responders) to identify needs and develop clinical scenarios for simulations
- Develop algorithms/programming in the use of simulators (primarily, computerized mannequins) for immersive simulations in the health sciences
- Create and oversee implementation of relevant Sim Center policies and protocols (e.g. equipment set up and tear down)
Project Implementation (25%)
- Oversee Sim Center technology during events to ensure high quality programming
- Make presentations to visitors, students, faculty and other users/clients as needed
- Provide technical support (e.g. preparation of materials and equipment for teaching, research, and continuing education activities; running simulators during events), as required
- Train staff and/or clinicians to use simulators
- Supervise student workers as needed
Equipment Preparation and Maintenance (25%)
- Troubleshoot procedural simulators and human patient simulators during scenario-based training sessions and demonstrations
- Participate in maintenance and management of simulation systems (e.g. alarms, gases, etc.) as needed
- Manage the maintenance and operation of all simulation equipment, and arrange for repair where necessary.
Information Management (15%)
- Maintain an inventory of equipment within the area
- Maintain records of algorithms, communications with clients, etc.
Other (10%)
- Other duties and projects as assigned
